Manuel Mendoza, 20, is the backseat passenger tragically involved in a crash with an 18-wheeler on Interstate 35 Wednesday night, according to the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.
According to San Antonio Police, the incident happened in the northbound lanes of I-35 around 9:00 p.m., right in the 12100 block near a construction zone. Mendoza was a passenger in the Altima when its driver crashed into the rear of the 18-wheeler.
The driver and the other two passengers were evacuated to a hospital following the collision, and their current condition is described as serious. Sadly, Mendoza died as a result of the blunt force injuries he sustained during the collision.
The driver of the 18 stopped to help after the collision. In an effort to identify the factors contributing to this unfortunate event, the authorities are conducting their own investigation into the circumstances of the crash.
