Gavin Rohrbach Obituary, Death: Union High School student Gavin Rohrbach killed in Jesup crash

An accident involving Union Community School District children in La Fort City, Iowa on Tuesday left one person dead and four others injured.

Gavin Rohrbach, a senior at Union High School, was killed in the collision that occurred at the intersection of South Canfield Road and Dubuque Road around 9:45 p.m.

The students were on their way back from Ulwyn Vs. Union Volleyball in Jessup.

Around 9:45 p.m., a Nissan Pathfinder sport utility vehicle was headed south on South Canfield Road when it ran a stop sign at Dubuque Road and collided with a Buick sedan at the intersection, according to the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office.

Rohrbach was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other four students were only slightly injured.

Due to the potential for significant injury, one of the women from the other car was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Waterloo Fire Ambulance crews, Dunkerton Ambulance and Jesup Fire and Ambulance crews also responded to the scene.

The Union Community School District announced Wednesday that all co-curricular and extracurricular programs for students in grades 7 through 12 will be canceled through Sunday, September 15.

The following statement was also released by the school district: “It is with great sadness that I share this update with you. Several Union students were injured in a car collision last night while driving home after the Oelwin volleyball game. Gavin Rohrbach, Class of 2025, passed away at the scene of the collision. The injuries sustained by the other students change.

Following the tragedy, the Rohrbach family got on the food train. It has already brought in nearly $15,000.
