On June 22, 1936, Christopher Christopherson was born in Brownsville, Texas. After growing up in a military home, Christopherson attended Pomona College and then Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, where he began writing poems. Before moving to Nashville to pursue his music career and eventually becoming known as a musician and songwriter, he flew helicopters for the United States Army.
Famous songs that became hits for various performers include “Me and Bobby McGee”, “For the Good Times” and “Help Me Make It Through the Night”, all written by him. He joined the famous country group The Highwaymen in 1985, supporting the outlaw country trend with Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash.
With notable parts in films such as *Born* (1976), for which he received a Golden Globe Award, and the *Blade* trilogy (1998-2004), Kristoffson achieved success in the world of entertainment. Throughout his career, he has received numerous honors, including induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, and was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2004.
