The distraught son of an Irish pensioner who perished in Hurricane Helen declared: “I lost my Superman, not just my dad.”
In his one-story home on Indian Rocks Beach in Pinellas County, Eden Bowles, 71, was found dead. An evacuation order was issued for the area, ordering residents to leave, but the Irishman stayed put. When a storm is expected to cause major damage and pose a serious threat to safety, local authorities issue the order.
Aidan's son Sam posted a heartfelt tribute to his father on social media. “I don't even know what to say, today I not only lost my father, I lost my Superman,” he wrote in the post. This man was the smartest and strongest person I have ever met, and he had a real impact on everyone he came in contact with, including myself.
“I'm really lost without him,” Sam continued. “We weren't just father and son; we were best friends, business partners and my hero.”
“Sadly, my father passed away at his home early this morning after not making it through Hurricane Helen last night.”
John Comer, a neighbor, discovered the former lawyer and owner of the Salt Public House on Saturday morning. The man spent his early years in Ireland. When Mr. Comer went to check on Mr. Bowles, he discovered his lifeless body covered in mud and stuck under the dresser.
The researchers think that Mr. Bowles, a lawyer from New York, drowned. Mr. Comer told The New York Times, “It's not something you can get out of your head easily,” referring to the unfortunate discovery. According to his neighbor, Mr. Bowles has vacationed in Indian Rocks Beach since the 1980s, but about 15 years ago, he made the decision to move there permanently from Kentucky.
