Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Kwan has died at the age of 34.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office told Atlanta News First that Grady Memorial Hospital confirmed the rapper's death on Thursday.
In a statement on social media, his longtime record label Young Money Entertainment also confirmed his death.
On social networks, dozens of rappers and fans reacted to the news.
Rich Homie Kwan's full name is DeQuantes Devonte Lamar, and he was born in Atlanta on October 4, 1989. On September 19, he was scheduled to play at Atlanta's State Farm Stadium.
Lamar began his career in 2011, and his 2013 track “Type of Way”, peaked at number one. 50 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 was his first mainstream hit. “Flex,” his 2015 song, peaked at No. 1. 26 in the table, confirming his success.
When Corey Lamar, Cowan's father, was shot in his barber shop in September 2014, he sustained injuries. Fulton County prosecutors tried to connect the incident to an alleged criminal organization led by Young Thug, who is now facing multiple felony and gang-related charges in Atlanta.
Kenneth Copeland, often referred to as Lil' Woody, admitted a few weeks earlier that he and a companion opened fire inside the barbershop.
Fulton County Deputy District Attorney Simona Hilton questioned Copeland about his motivation, and he stated that the shooting was done “to send a message” that “we are not the ones to be played with.”
Copeland played a crucial role in the prosecution's case against the young thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams. But Copeland has repeatedly admitted he lied to police in 2015 so they could use the group known as Young Slime Life or Young Stoner Life as the basis of their case.
