The Noble County Coroner has identified the woman and her three daughters who were found dead at a home in Wolcottville, Indiana, on Tuesday.
Officers from the Wolcottville Police Department discovered the bodies of 32-year-old Rebecca Hughes and her three daughters, Olin Newell, 8, Allison Newell, 6, and Amelia Newell, 5, in a home south of County Lane. Main Street becomes Kelly Street.
The children's father, Jonathan Newell of Kendallville, revealed on GoFundMe that he had started that their deaths were a murder-suicide, although the coroner withheld the cause and manner of death.
“My name is Jonathan Newell,” said Jonathan Newell on GoFundMe. These are Olin, Eli and Mia, my daughters. Help is needed with their three funeral expenses. These children deserve much more than I can afford for their funerals – I am not asking for assistance. When their mother, Rebecca, passed away on September 17, 2024, she took them with her. Anything helps, if you can. I can make payments if you need them later. Whatever it takes, I'll do it.
Following the horrific event, friends, family and neighbors organized a small memorial for the girls. Reminders, flowers and candles were placed on the steps of the house.
The girls' game will be missed, according to the neighbors.
The girls were lovely little girls who I would often see enjoying themselves on the trampoline. Right here in the middle of the fun and now completely quiet, the dog was barking and playing with them, according to Wolcottville resident Pam Laughlin.
