James Jones, a longtime award-winning journalist who served as managing editor of The Selma Times-Journal, has died after battling a brief illness for the past month. He was 54 years old.
In 2018, James began working at The Selma Times-Journal. His previous employment was as a 26-year employee of the SunHerald in Biloxi, Mississippi. After graduating from Stillman College, he began his career in journalism at The Tuscaloosa News.
“It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you that our good friend and colleague, James Jones, passed away this morning,” Selma Times-Journal Publisher Brent Mays said Friday. “James was the heart and soul of The Selma Times-Journal for the past six years. We are deeply saddened by his loss. Our thoughts and prayers go out to James' family and his many friends, many of whom he considered truly family.”
