A Laramie man went missing three weeks ago, and his family was “devastated” to learn he was found dead in his car Friday after running off the road in a remote area of Carbon County.
Donnie Smith, 79, a man with moderate dementia, was reported missing by relatives on August 24 after leaving his Laramie home without taking his wallet or phone.
According to a family member, he recently started having trouble following directions and staying aware of his surroundings, and occasionally got lost while driving.
According to a news release from the Albany County Sheriff's Office, Smith's GMC Envoy was discovered Friday by a hunter down a ravine off a rural road in the Encampment Wilderness area south of Riverside in Carbon County.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
